OP8 Landscapes in Malaysia

SGP supports efforts to protect ecosystems, improve sustainable agriculture and fisheries, and strengthen resilience to climate impacts.

Under Operational Phase 8 (OP8), SGP Malaysia adopts a ridge-to-reef approach, recognising the connections between forests, rivers, coasts, and marine ecosystems.

These selected landscapes highlight areas where communities play an important role in protecting nature while sustaining their livelihoods.

Pahang (Kuantan, Jerantut, Maran, Temerloh, Pekan, Bera, Rompin)

Pahang (Kuantan, Jerantut, Maran, Temerloh, Pekan, Bera, Rompin)

This landscape connects upland forests to coastal areas like Pekan and Rompin, forming a ridge-to-reef system of rivers, mangroves, and agricultural lands. Communities depend on these ecosystems for farming, fishing, and livelihoods.

Johor (Mersing, Kota Tinggi)

Located along Johor’s east coast, this landscape links inland areas to islands, coral reefs, mangroves, and coastal forests. Communities rely on marine and coastal resources for fishing and tourism.

OP7 Landscapes in Malaysia

Under the Seventh Operational Phase, SGP Malaysia operationalised integrated landscape-based approaches across three priority landscapes – the Crocker Range Conservation Reserve in Sabah, the Middle and Upper Baram Region in Sarawak and urban green spaces in Klang Valley – testing practical, community-led solutions to environmental challenges while strengthening local livelihoods and building leadership.
